Using Lembos

A tour of the Portal, and who does what in it.

The Portal is organised into three areas, one for each kind of work:

AreaForHolds
WorkspaceProduct teamsBusiness domains, software systems, components, APIs and resources
PlatformPlatform, security and operations teamsBlueprints, environments, execution targets, source credentials, placement rules, policies, instances, artifacts and the audit log
OrganizationAdministratorsUsers, groups, roles and service accounts

What you can see and change in each depends on your roles and group memberships.

The home page gathers what is waiting on a decision, what needs attention, and what your groups own:

portal.lembos.dev
The Portal home page: counts of what is waiting on a decision, failed, drifted, past its lease or quarantined, then the environments, systems, components and blueprints owned by your groups.

A typical first week

  1. An administrator sets up the organisation — groups for your teams, and people in them. Access
  2. The platform team registers where things run — a cloud account or cluster as an execution target, and credentials for private sources. Golden paths
  3. The platform team publishes golden paths — blueprints for a web service, a database, an environment. Golden paths
  4. The platform team declares environments — dev, staging and production, with slots where production is split by region or country, and rules for what may be placed where. Environments
  5. Product teams describe their software — systems, components, APIs and the resources they need, each on a blueprint. Catalog
  6. Product teams ship — configure each component, trigger a release and promote it from environment to environment. Delivery
  7. Guardrails go in as you learn — policies that warn first, then enforce. Governance
